Neapolitan composer who was perhaps the only one of his contemporaries who secured a permanent position at the Hapsburg court in Vienna during the baroque period.

His style was firmly rooted in that of Naples at the time (pupil of Greco, Ursino and Giordano) but his ability to work within a more conservative mould probably led to his acceptance in the Viennese court.

Composer of around 22 operas/serenatas/dramma per musica, 13 oratorios, numerous liturgical works, more than 70 secular cantatas and a small amount of instrumental music, his restrained yet melodic technique was a certain precursor of the early classical style.
